Job Description



We are seeking a "Senior Architect, IT – Enterprise" for either Phoenix, AZ or Honolulu, HI

This group of most senior technicians are recognized within the broader staff for their deep level of expertise within one or more technologies. These individuals help to define the principles, standards and guidelines regarding the proper use and deployment of business applications, data and technology within the company. These individuals are informal leaders in the organization and as such require many of the “soft skills” found (in addition to their technical knowledge) in the Management job family. This family is highly leveraged across the company.


Job Responsibilities



Key Responsibilities

- Responsible to participate in multi-year Engineering/Technical Roadmaps for one or more layers of the architecture

- Identify and develop operational plans across technologies and/or across systems
- Ensure that the right people from across the enterprise participate in technical design and vendor selection for projects
- Ensure appropriate use of project management methodology across all areas of responsibility
- Facilitate the analysis, design and programming of viable solutions to high complexity business problems according to user specifications
- Develop or approve detail program specifications
- For technical leads, contribute to technical design, decision-making, and tactical planning at the enterprise level
- Provide leadership at an enterprise level in the analysis, planning, design and development of computer/network systems
- Ensure that systems are functionally appropriate, technically sound and integrated
- Ensure that systems software is thoroughly tested
- Work with support/application teams to ensure business needs are met
- Anticipate and communicate environment impacts
- Effective follow-up and communication of problems as they occur
- Assist leadership in the financial control and accountability on capital and operating expenses for targeted areas of responsibility


Experience



Preferred Qualifications

- Generally, has greater than 10 years of work experience in Engineering and/or Information Technology environment
- Expertise in MuleSoft
- Expertise in at least one major cloud infrastructure platform
- Agile and DevOps mindset
- Expert level experience in a single technology area and broad system-level expertise across multiple computing platforms and technology
- Recommends improvement within and across Director departments
- Drives and fosters integration and communication across technology groups and projects
- Recognizes and communicates patentable ideas
- Advanced knowledge of project management methodology
- Ability to assist in the management of projects using the organization’s project management methodology
- Ability to think strategically


Required Experience



Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of professional work experience and education

- Practical experience leading design and implementation of complex enterprise systems

- Ability to understanding and design complex cloud infrastructure and systems architecture

- Proficiency working with distributed service-oriented architectures

- Background working in a complex mix of off the shelf and custom developed solutions and a history of integrating these together

- Ability to effectively balance the desire for “best practice” technical solutions with the current realities of the business environment and assist the customer in making the appropriate decisions/trade-offs

- Ability to deal with complex business or technical issues while maintaining an enterprise/industry perspective

- Actively participates and contributes to future Infrastructure Releases and Middleware/Hub

- Ensures that chosen technology is flexible, supportable and requires minimal maintenance

- Ensures the tactical implementation of the computing styles and architecture

- Leads and facilitates the design and implementation of technical solutions and processes

- Stays abreast of industry and emerging technologies to provide recommendations to the Architecture group and the Principals

- Able to shepherd multiple products at the same time

- Can consult across multiple technology areas, to perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and solution implementation

- Ability to influence technical direction at the department/enterprise level and across multiple projects or technology areas

- Provide expert- level resource for technology/project development review

- Ability to coach technical work of less senior staff

- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based, customer- service-oriented environment

- Understand the broader implications of situations; identify potential problem areas and execute solutions before they become problems

- Understands the following:
impact of design decision to the computer (performance, etc.)
technical behavior of the underlying operating system

ALL functional aspects of the tools and development environment

- Promotes adherence to standards and the common way (Software Development Life Cycle)

- Leads/Conducts detailed code-reviews in a constructive manner

- Ensures that coding solution is flexible, supportable, and requires minimal maintenance

- Writes code that is harder, more advanced (queuing, threading, etc.) than Software Engineers

- Suggests improvements to existing systems that would minimize maintenance costs

- Lead solutioning/design sessions with a program perspective in association with all interdependent systems

- Technical Expert of required programming languages

- Expert of technical/business environments

- Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems

- Determine causes of errors and deciding what to do about it

- Understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making

- Consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one

- Determine how a system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect outcomes

Required Education



Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of professional work experience and education

Preferred:
